Post İstanbul, Kim Bilir? - Post Istanbul, Who Knows?
O kim? Pencereden bakan kim bilir ne gibi bir güzel manzaraya baktığının ve çok güzel bir detayı yakalamaya çalıştığımın farkında mıydı? Yaya olarak ilerlerken Üsküdar’ın merkezine yaklaşmıştım ki trafik yoğunlaşmıştı ve oradan geçen motorsikletli ise bana bakarken kim bilir eli ile ne yapıyordu? Havuzun başında oturan bir amca ne düşünüyordu? Ben de fotoğraf çekmeye çıkmıştım ve ne gibi fotoğraf kareleri yakalayacağımı bilemiyordum. Aslında bir konu bile yoktu kafamda. Sadece güzel fotoğraflar çekip günüme neşe ve mutluluk katmak ve biraz da gitmediğim ve bilmediğim İstanbul köşelerini keşfetmekti. Kendi içinde çelişkilerin olduğu uygulamalarıyla, mekandaki yüzeysel ilişkileriyle ve çok kültürlü bir yapısıyla, hayatını sürdüren insanların olduğu bu şehir ve İstanbul’un toplumsal yapısı beni bu post-belgesel projesini oluşturmaya itti. Kim Bilir İstanbul’u gezenler ne gibi manzaralara rastlıyorlar lakin Üsküdar’dan karşı yakaya geçip Aşiyan’dan Baltalimanı’na oradan da Maslak tarafına gittiğimde İstanbul’un ne kadar farklı yüzlerinin olduğuna bir kez daha şahit olmuş oldum. Acaba İstanbul şehrinin son 50 yıldaki patlarcasına bu plansız genişlemesinin ne kadarını bu toplum benimsiyordur? Kim bilir?
Who was he? Was she aware of the beautiful view that she was gazing at from the window, or of my attempt to capture that beautiful detail? As I walked along, I was approaching the center of Üsküdar when the traffic intensified, and who knows what the motorcyclist passing by was doing with his/her hand as he/she looked at me? What was the old man sitting by the pool thinking? I had come out to take photographs, and I didn't know what kind of shots I would capture. Actually, I didn't even have a subject in my mind. It was just about taking beautiful photos to add joy and happiness to my day and to discover some corners of Istanbul I hadn't been to and didn't know. This city, with its contradictory practices, superficial relationships in places, and multicultural structure, and the social fabric of Istanbul, where people live their lives, pushed me to create this post-documentary project. Who knows what kinds of sights those who travel through Istanbul encounter, but when I crossed from Üsküdar to the other side, from Aşiyan to Baltalimanı and then to Maslak, I witnessed once again how many different faces Istanbul has. To what extent does the public actually accept this explosive, unplanned expansion of the city of Istanbul over the last 50 years? Who knows
